Rosa von Praunheim

Rosa von Praunheim (1942) is a German director and symbol of gay cinema. He has directed more than 70 films, tackling issues that gave rise to heated debates, like AIDS, the rise of the gay movements in Germany and the USA, politics, sex and homosexual activism. His most famous films include the documentaries It's not the Homosexual Who's Perverse, but the Situation in Which He Lives (1971), Survival In New York (1989), the story of three young German lesbians in the Big Apple, I Am My Own Woman (1992), about the transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, Neurosia (1995) and The Einstein of Sex (1999).
