The Times of Harvey Milk

Feature Film USA 1985

Epstein’s film analyzes the political and homophobic climate in which gay rights activist Harvey Milk was shot in 1978 in San Francisco. “In the Castro Street neighbourhood, which has a huge gay community, a new awareness began to take shape in a minority that had up to then been invisible. Thos who had to hide because of their ‘diversity’ found the courage to appear in public. Among these, Harvey Milk was a charismatic leader who was shot in cold blood by a representative of a majority that suddenly found itself in the minority.” (Manfred Salzgeber)
