The Kuchus of Uganda

Documentary Sweden Uganda 2008

Kuchus pejoratively means "faggots". A frightening reportage on homophobia in one of the less developed African countries. Some brave activists tell about their condition as homosexuals, almost barricaded in their semi-clandestine, even fenced in, home-base (promoting gay issues is a crime); they risk every day to be harassed and imprisoned up to seven years. In a terrifying scene, when invited by the University for a lecture on their condition , they are insulted, mocked, taunted and literally chased away by students and professors before they can say a word. A desperate umpteenth appeal to civil rights and against homophobia by Swedish director Mathilda Piehl (at last year's Festival with Are You A Girl or What?) who adds to all the repeated appeals of the International community.
