Silenzi e parole (Silenzi e parole)

Documentary Italy 2016

Cagliari. This movie compares two worlds, apparently two separate universes, depicting the complexity of life today: Lent (Quaresima in Italian) in the St. Ignatius monastery of Capuchin Friars and the cultural/political program Queeresima created by ARC Association. Set up in Sardinia in 2002, this association operates in the field of culture and volunteer social action to safeguard and promote LGBTQI rights. A handful of veteran activists fighting to protect homosexuals and transsexuals from all forms of discrimination. On one hand, silence and the rituals of Catholic worship, followed by a large and devout congregation; on the other, words, with people of all ages passionately pursuing their idea of civil society. As the director says, "I tried to explore an underground Italy, often unknown or deliberately ignored. I discovered a new Church and a different society. At the end of this journey, I think I may have discovered a new concept of democracy".
