Nånting måste gå sönder (Something Must Break)

Feature Film Sweden 2014

"I'm not gay". "Me neither". This exchange of comments is the key to the love story between mysterious hetero Andreas and androgynous Sebastian, set in the nightlife of Stockholm. They meet and begin to see each other after Andreas, a ministering angel wearing a leather jacket, a somber, generous James Dean, saved Sebastian, who calls himself Ellie, from a homophobic attack. This is poetic, crazy, punk love, a tender, eccentric and unconventionally passionate relationship, constrained by gender stereotypes, but tinged with a delicate fetishism, which leads them to change and to accept themselves. Swedish director Ester Martin Bergsmark debuts as a feature filmmaker. He was at the Torino LGBT Film Festival also in 2013 with the magnificent, fluid She Male Snails, which was inspired by his relationship with transgender artist Eli Leuven, author of the novel the movie is based on and also his partner. The film was awarded the Tiger Award in Rotterdam in 2014 and is now in competition for the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
