I Shot My Love

Documentary Germany Israel 2010

It is 2006 when Tomer Heymann presents his first documentary at the Berlin Film Festival. After the premiere he goes to the coolest place in the city, the nightclub Berghain, where he meets dancer Andreas Merk. I Shot My Love tells the story of their love affair. When Andreas goes to visit Tomer in Tel Aviv, he meets his mother and  he is faced not with only another culture and another country, but also with the story of this family who escaped from Nazi Germany seventy years ago. Thus a new kind of family is created, of which Andreas is a precious and constant part. Tomer goes to visit the more traditional family of his partner in Germany. A single camera is the protagonist and is the eye in this private story; its presence is never an obstacle to conversation and intimate moments. A three handed love story, thanks to the third party, a strong and involved mother, to the positive energy radiating from the character of Andreas and to the sensibility of its director.
