Born This Way

Documentary USA 2013

As Lady Gaga says in her song Born This Way, men and women try to live (or rather to survive) in Cameroon, one of the most homophobic, intolerant (also as regards religion), prejudiced countries in the world. Every day in this country, gays and lesbians take serious physical and moral risks: according to article 347 of the Penal Code, imprisonment for from one to five years is the punishment for homosexuality. In this situation of repression, there is only one solution: to keep their sexual orientation secret, even from friends and family. The only real help comes from the Association for the Defence of Homosexuals founded by lawyer Alice Nkom. This association is able to give support and hope to people who ask only to live in freedom. After Call Me Kuchu, the documentary set in Uganda which won the People's Choice Award last year at the Torino GLBT, Born This Way gives voice to people who are condemned to silence, telling their moving stories.
